Building Things Since 1984
Four decades of metal fabrication. North Carolina roots. National reach.
Our Story
Colored Metal Products was founded in 1984 in North Carolina's foothills—a region with a long history of manufacturing and skilled trades. We're based in Shelby, between Charlotte and Asheville, with easy access to the Southeast's major markets.
What started as a metal fabrication shop has grown into a 30,000 square foot facility operating three specialized divisions: Jackson Williams for commercial and architectural metal work, The Awning Shop for residential and small business applications, and Pitch Equipment for sports field equipment.
Forty years later, we're still here. Still family-owned. Still fabricating custom metal work for clients down the street and across the country—from local homeowners to national brands with hundreds of locations.
Our Facility
Our 30,000 SF fabrication facility in Shelby houses the equipment, materials, and expertise to handle projects from concept through installation.
We operate shears and brakes with 10-foot capacity, TIG and MIG welding stations, CNC and laser cutting equipment, and full metal bending and forming capabilities. We work in steel, aluminum, and sheet metal, as well as canvas, vinyl, Sunbrella, and industrial fabrics for awning and canopy applications.
Powder coating is handled through trusted local partners who meet our quality standards.
Where We Work
Our divisions serve different markets and geographies:
Jackson Williams operates across the Southeast—North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida—handling commercial, institutional, and larger residential projects. For programmatic brand partners, we go nationwide.
The Awning Shop focuses on residential and small business clients in the Charlotte region and surrounding Carolinas communities, typically within a two-hour radius of Shelby.
Pitch Equipment ships sports field equipment to athletic programs across the entire country.
All fabrication happens here, at our facility in Shelby.

How We Work
We only install what we fabricate. Our installation crews are our employees—not subcontractors. When something bears our name, our people stand behind it.
This isn't a tagline. It's how we've operated for four decades.
